Web & Mobile App Critique

I have chosen to demo an application within the fantasy sports world and show a few details of what its like and why it improvements wouldn't hurt. Today, I will evaluate the DraftKings app and its usability, design, and functionalities. This app is simple yet intriguing to sports lovers who enjoy a little fantasy fun and some competition. Below, you see in the first picture the home screen. This is where you decide what type of league you will play in (private or open), who you will play with friends or anyone, and which sport you will participate in. Once that sport has been selected, you are then given a different variety of modes to play within that sport. My favorite mode is tiers but there a good amount of options available to enjoy. In the tier contests, participants create a lineup by selecting players listed in the Player Pool with no salary cap. As players score in real time the app updates along with those statistics giving you points for certain plays that are made. At the bottom next to the home tab, you see a few other options to select. With my contest tab being another useful section to monitor all your live or recently completed games this makes it easy to get right to the source. The app is very simple to navigate as learning the rules to the game is the complex part. If I had to improve the app, I would first recommend adding one fill-in slot so if a player you selected is out that game, the system will replace it with the backup player selected. My second recommendation would be to update the UI and locator. I believe there are too many elements dedicated to non contest menus and promos. The main focus of this app is sports and sometimes polls on other things outside of sports just to get users takes from the app itself. As far as the locator I have seen where if you travel to another state for vacation the location sometimes think you are faking area to place a bet or affect those who live border 2 states. Lastly, I would recommend integrating its other sub apps into the main application itself. DraftKings has about 3 sub applications related to the main one but requires that you download the others if you want to participate in certain games or bets. This could not only save time for an individual but also space on whatever mobile device they download the app to. Overall the app does what it needs to run effectively and with enhancements like these, it can only improve the interface giving customers a more enjoyable experience.
